THIRU-VANANTHA-PURAM: Karnataka Governor T.N. Chaturvedi said here on Friday that Aurobindo was a sage who had transformed the character of the freedom struggle. Inaugurating the 134th Aurobindo Jayanthi celebrations, organised by the Sri Aurobindo Cultural Society, Mr. Chaturvedi said the two phases of life of Aurobindo — as a freedom fighter and yogi — were interlinked, and while living in seclusion, he was aware of the problems faced by the nation and mentioned it in his evening speeches. During his stay in Pondicherry, in an interview to The Hindu Aurobindo said that he was sure of the nation attaining freedom and others would complete the mission that he had begun. The two facets of his life as a sage and freedom fighter were astonishing. Each celebration of his birthday strengthened the determination to renew the faith in his ideals, Mr. Chaturvedi said.
Ideals of Aurobindo: Society president O.Rajagopal said the ideals of Aurobindo were a regimen to the problems dogging the education sector in the State. While the European countries were not sparing any efforts to study and conduct research on the works of Aurobindo, the intelligentsia of the State were yet to take any interest in his literature, he said. Bharateeya Vichara Kendram director P. Parameswaran said no serious studies had been conducted on the works of Aurobindo in Kerala. He said the intellectuals in Kerala were more keen on researching and debating Marxism, which, he said, had become outdated. The philosophy of Aurobindo can become an alternative to Marxism and guide the nation in future. It has the potential to clean Indian politics and it is worth attempting, he said.
