This Perfect Day, 1984, Animal Farm, and Brave New World

Ira Levin died on Monday. One of his least-known works is one of my favorite novels: This Perfect Day, first published in 1970. It's in the same genre as Orwell's 1984 and Animal Farm, and Huxley's Brave New World. In my opinion, This Perfect Day should be ranked with these three important classics that do so much to make readers feel in their guts the dangers of collectivism... "Christ, Marx, Wood, and Wei Led Us to this Perfect Day"from Cafe Hayek by Don Boudreaux

  1. Of course what the good adolescents at Hayek dont appreciate is that we are now living in the brutopian "world" that combines the nightmare visions of both Huxley and Orwell---brought to one and all by the collectivising force of capitalism and its all pervasive propaganda apparatus of TV and especially the advertising.

Stay tuned for the next command to buy or become fascinated by the next big thing---the latest hype.

The triumph of one dimensional banality.

A collective world of consumerist brand "identities" and "loyalties", completely and utterly empty of any cultural depth.

Methinks the authors should read Captains of Consciousness by Stuart Ewen.
