Historical and civilizational attitudes

It would be better if we look at democracy not from an exporters point of view but also from the nation-state which is receiving it:
  1. Do historical and civilizational attitudes not play a role in determining how a people would like to be governed?
  2. Whats the authenticity/longevity of such(templatized?) democratic institutions in this information age when its much easier to spread disinformation than differentiate between authentic info and snake-oil? Isnt Ukraine an example, but from another angle, one can say that democracy did work there, since people did speak up and give a mandate to Yanukovich even though the previous elections(not too long ago after all) painted a different picture about the support for Yushchenko then.
  3. What is the limit to foreign intervention in case such democratic institutions are foreign funded/instituted. Where do they get off? Anonymous indianexpress.com
