Thoughts on the Constitution of India

It seems that the multi-party democracy has come to a situation of multiplying the political parties and their combinations. So instead of a party, an alliance is going to form the government at the centre, always. This is due to standardization of regional parties at the state level. People tend to identify more with their state level leaders than the distant central ones. And, in a way, the election to the State Assembly witnesses more emotional involvement of the people.

This aspect of our state level politics should be seen as a virtue and needs to be leveraged to benefit the national politics. How?
Lok Sabha should be a permanent house and elect its leader once in five years. The members should be elected by a list system on the basis of proportional representation as and when elections take place to the State Assemblies. Thus, the wish of the people gets reflected in the constitution of the house, periodically, and, we get the best minds as our parliamentarians. Tusar N. Mohapatra tusarnmohapatra@mail.com
