Anti-colonial struggle in India could not be imagined without the assertion of Hindu ideals, their therapeutic/emancipatory functions. These nationalists (from Vivekananda to Sri Aurobindo, from Tilak to Gandhi) used Hindu symbols, tapped cultural resources, regenerated the confidence of the people and ennobled them to heal the collective psyche wounded by colonialism.
