In memory of Monnet

If there has been peace in Europe for the last six decades, it is largely owing to the fructification of the dreams of Monnet and others who shared his vision of a united Europe. For, it was from that central idea of a Franco-British union - one to which Winston Churchill reacting favourably said, "In this crisis we must not let ourselves be accused of lack of imagination" - that the European Union eventually materialised...
Why is the memory of Monnet being invoked now? French writer and thinker living in India for the past 30 years, Claude Arpi and his friends and associates are holding an exhibition on Monnet at IIC (Annexe), which has drawn some of the leading ambassadors, public figures and officials. The exhibition marks the 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, which established the European Economic Community (EEC), and has been organised jointly by ICCR and the Pavilion de France (Auroville). daily pioneer.com/gautam siddharth
