Assorted tweets for general information:

In our Westminster system, the national election is indeed an aggregation of 543 local elections. They can be fought on national or local issues, personalities or policies. National unity is a bogey. It's about political strategy. https://t.co/Ig3Sei6LDG

Political homogenisation is taking root in India - wherein various forces are coming together for a single political purpose.
Here's why this is not in India's larger interest:

Just stumbled upon this wonderful, wonderful piece by @c_aashish written in December last year. Now relevant more than ever. The switch between macro and micro in this piece is breathtaking. https://t.co/aOgshQUxQd

Probably this whole SM hindutva narrative is the real culprit :P  because of constant hindutva demands, modi got confused whether to deliver progressive development for future India or to revert back to 1991 hindutva :) in the end he messed up on both, with some misfired gauraksha.
Hence don't despair and don't curse bjp based on your hindutva projection. because most of India votes on local/micro issues that affect daily lives, not on vague broad terms like hindutva, civilizational war etc. To the credit of bjp, modi has managed to enter this micro level to
Some extent atleast, through mudra yojana, ujjwala, krishi sinchayi, agri  reforms etc. bjp has become a party of informal sector  to a large extent, just like congress. the challenge is to create a permanent votebank in this arena like congress has done. 2019 will make things clear

Electoral politics and Hindutva revolution are not necessarily convergent. In electoral politics the first choice for even a hard core hindutva terrorist might not be the most openly hindutva party. He might still go with the party of his own caste.

Any attempt to correct the colonized narrative of India or inject some pride in our heritage and history becomes "saffronisation" https://t.co/bu0XAnHDrF
This book is a must read for every Indian for the scholarly assessment of British rule in India. Thankfully, the book generates no passions against anybody; only extreme sadness at the mistakes we have made in the immediate past and continue presently, without learning from the past. The cultural and historical distortions of our country have been significant and the sad aspect is we have internalized all of them. We lost sixty years after Independence in failing to create a grand narrative for ourselves, as rued by Rajiv Malhotra.

Seagull BooksYoda Press, and Blaft Publications produce very different books and have dissimilar histories of genesis. Yet, in its own way, each publishing house has successfully created demand for content that didn’t seem to have a “market”: Seagull’s titles today include some of the best writing on theatre and cinema, and translations of works by noteworthy authors writing in several South Asian and world languages; Yoda Press’s publications have changed conversations about gender and sexuality in South Asia; and Blaft has reinvigorated genre fiction as well as experimental writing across different languages.

I try not making light of any form of mental illness. I really do for personal reasons. But, this sort of thing I still do not understand. I started reading this on @thenewsminute because it sounded like a real struggle for many. Very confused now 🙄 https://t.co/42vWbmuVNJ
I mean for capitalism induced depression, a socialist set up might be more healthy. Like Venezuela or something. To be fair, the rest of the article is still very informative and well articulated. We all have our struggles. Just did not know neo-liberalism also features there.

I get what s/he is saying and I don't agree. You might not like the political system where you live and that might make you unhappy. Not depressed.

No socialist country in the world has ever achieved the predicted final stage, that of communism. Not USSR, not Cuba, not Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, China or North Korea. All these countries were (and some still are) SOCIALIST.
They still use money, people get salaries, private property still exists
IN CONCLUSION: there were never real communist countries anywhere in the world. They were all socialist. They all had socialist economies and they were ruled by communist Parties. Communism was the goal, this is why the ruling political class and their Party were called communist

From her blind unwilling substance must emerge
A beauty that belongs to happier spheres.
